Client Success Story – EDS

Client Success Story: Supporting Shoulder Mobility and Managing Pain with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome
When a client living with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) came to us, they were experiencing ongoing neck and shoulder pain, with a notable restriction in their shoulder mobility. They were unable to lift their arm above shoulder level without pain, rating their discomfort at a 5/10 even at rest, and worse with movement.

Unfortunately, previous physiotherapy sessions had worsened their symptoms, leaving them feeling discouraged and unsure of their next steps.

🧠 A Thoughtful, Person-Centred Approach
We began by taking time to really listen—to understand their full medical history, what was important to them, and how EDS affected their daily life. From this, we built a treatment plan that prioritized safety, comfort, and gradual progress.

Together, we agreed on a short-term intensive plan of 4 sessions scheduled closely together. This allowed us to build consistent progress while carefully monitoring how their body responded week to week.

💪 The Results
Each session saw small but steady improvements. By the 4th session, the client reached a big milestone—they could lift their arm above shoulder height while holding weight, with no pain in the movement. This was a huge win and a powerful step forward in regaining confidence and mobility.
🔄 Ongoing Support

Given the chronic nature of EDS, we’ve agreed to continue with monthly maintenance sessions. This will allow us to catch any musculoskeletal issues early and help the client continue to build strength and manage their condition more effectively over time.

This journey is a great example of what can happen when we combine clinical care with compassion, collaboration, and consistency.
