Causes of Arm Pain

Arm pain can develop for a number of reasons, often linked to how you use your body day to day. Repetitive movements such as typing, using a mouse, lifting, or manual work can place strain on the muscles, tendons and joints in the arm.

You might notice discomfort after activities like carrying shopping, working at a desk for long periods, or doing tasks that involve gripping or reaching. Poor posture, particularly through the shoulders and upper back, can also contribute by placing additional tension through the arm.

In some cases, the pain may not start in the arm itself but can be linked to tension or restriction in the neck or shoulder, creating symptoms such as aching, weakness, tingling or reduced movement.

Quick Relief Technique

If your arm feels tight, sore or overworked, a gentle approach can help reduce tension and improve mobility.

  • Sit or stand with your shoulders relaxed
  • Gently straighten your arm in front of you
  • Use your other hand to lightly pull your fingers back to stretch the forearm
  • Hold for 15 to 20 seconds, then switch sides
  • Slowly rotate your wrists in circles, 10 times in each direction

Taking regular breaks from repetitive tasks and applying gentle heat can also help ease discomfort and support recovery.
