Causes of Foot Pain

Foot pain is often linked to the amount of time we spend on our feet and the type of support we give them. Long periods of standing, walking, or high-impact activities can place repeated stress on the feet. Wearing unsupportive shoes, such as flat soles or poorly fitted footwear, can also contribute to strain.

You might notice discomfort after a long day on your feet, first thing in the morning, or during activities like walking or exercise. Tightness in the calves, reduced ankle mobility, or changes in how you walk can all affect how pressure is distributed through the feet. In some cases, tension from higher up the body, such as the legs or hips, can also play a role.

Foot pain often begins as soreness or stiffness and can develop into sharper pain, tenderness when walking, or discomfort when putting weight through the foot.

Quick Relief Technique

If your feet feel sore or tight, gentle movement and simple exercises can help relieve tension and improve mobility.

  • Sit comfortably and place your foot on the floor
  • Slowly roll your foot over a small ball or water bottle
  • Apply gentle pressure and move back and forth for 1 to 2 minutes
  • Gently stretch your calf by stepping one foot back and pressing the heel down
  • Hold for 15 to 20 seconds, then switch sides

Wearing supportive footwear and giving your feet regular rest can also help reduce strain and discomfort.
