Causes of Neck Pain

Neck pain is one of the most common complaints and is often linked to modern daily habits. Spending long hours looking down at a phone, working at a laptop without proper screen height, or sitting at a desk with poor posture can all place strain on the neck.

You might recognise it if you often sit with your head pushed forward, cradle your phone between your ear and shoulder, or wake up with stiffness after sleeping in an awkward position. Stress can also play a big role, causing the muscles in the neck and upper shoulders to tighten and hold tension.

Over time, this can lead to discomfort that starts as stiffness or tightness and develops into restricted movement, headaches, or pain when turning your head.

Quick Relief Technique

If your neck feels tight or uncomfortable, a gentle reset can help relieve tension and improve mobility.

  • Sit or stand tall with your shoulders relaxed
  • Slowly draw your chin back to create a “double chin” position
  • Hold for 5 seconds and repeat 8 to 10 times
  • Gently tilt your head to one side, bringing your ear towards your shoulder
  • Hold for 15 to 20 seconds, then repeat on the other side

Applying gentle heat and taking regular breaks from screens can also help reduce tension and prevent further strain.
